      Caesar Crystal Bohemiae

Caesar Crystal Bohemiae – Timeless Elegance in Glassmaking

      Introduction to Caesar Crystal Bohemiae

Caesar Crystal Bohemiae continues the illustrious tradition of quality glass manufacturing, rooted in the Josefodol glassworks, established in 1861 by Viennese entrepreneur Josef Schreiber. Nestled in the picturesque valley of the Sázavka River near the town of Světlá nad Sázavou, this glassworks is a testament to Bohemian craftsmanship in the heart of the Moravian highlands.

      A Legacy of Excellence

Following the Second World War, the glassworks were nationalized by the communist regime, becoming a state-owned enterprise. In 1994, after privatization, the company was renamed Caesar Crystal Bohemiae, honoring the legacy of the Caesar brothers, the last private owners of the glassworks. This heritage continues to inspire the company’s commitment to quality and innovation.

      Crafting Crystal Masterpieces

In 1995, Caesar Crystal Bohemiae became the first glass manufacturer to be awarded the prestigious Czech Made brand by the Minister of Industry of the Czech Republic, a recognition of the superior quality of its products.

      Bohemian Craftsmanship at Its Finest

At the Josefodol glassworks, skilled artisans produce hand-blown and intricately cut 24% lead oxide (PbO) crystal. This perfect blend of time-honored tradition and contemporary design is brought to life by renowned artists such as Zdeněk Kunst and Stanislav Machek, along with celebrated external designers like Švarc, Exnar, and Janák.

The Unique Art of Cased Crystal

One of the most distinctive features of Caesar Crystal Bohemiae is the production of cased crystal. This process involves layering a pure crystal base with colored crystal at high temperatures. During the meticulous grinding process, an industrial diamond blade cuts through the colored layer, revealing a striking contrast between color, crystal, and light, creating a truly unique and captivating design.
